Terms of Service

Last updated: 18 June 2026

Please read these terms carefully before using SimpleTaxLink. They set out your rights and responsibilities and ours.

1. About these terms

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of SimpleTaxLink ("the Service"), provided by SimpleTaxLink ("we", "us", "our"). By creating an account or using the Service you agree to these Terms.

If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

2. What SimpleTaxLink does

SimpleTaxLink is a Making Tax Digital (MTD) bridging software service that:

Reads income and expense data from Google Sheets you connect.
Submits quarterly MTD updates to HMRC on your behalf, using OAuth credentials you authorise.

SimpleTaxLink is a software tool, not a tax adviser. We do not check your figures for accuracy, advise on tax liability, or guarantee that your submissions comply with HMRC requirements. You remain solely responsible for the accuracy of your tax records and submissions.

3. Beta service

The Service is currently in beta. This means:

Features may change, be removed, or be unavailable without notice.
The Service may contain bugs or errors.
We provide no uptime guarantee during the beta period.
Your feedback helps us improve — report issues to simpletaxlink@gmail.com.

We will give reasonable notice before ending the beta or making material changes that affect paid users.

4. Your account

You must:

Be at least 18 years old and legally able to enter contracts in the UK.
Provide accurate information when creating your account.
Keep your password secure and not share your account.
Notify us immediately at simpletaxlink@gmail.com if you suspect unauthorised access.

You are responsible for all activity under your account.

5. HMRC authorisation

When you connect your HMRC account:

You grant SimpleTaxLink permission to submit MTD quarterly updates to HMRC on your behalf via OAuth.
You can revoke this permission at any time through your HMRC online account.
You are responsible for reviewing all submission details (income, expenses, period dates) before confirming a submission. Once submitted to HMRC, corrections must be made directly with HMRC.
We store your HMRC OAuth tokens securely. See our Privacy Policy for details.

6. Google Sheets

When you connect a Google Sheet:

You grant SimpleTaxLink read-only access to the specific spreadsheet(s) you select.
We do not modify, share, or retain the raw contents of your spreadsheet beyond the figures read at submission time.
You are responsible for the accuracy of data in your spreadsheet.

7. Acceptable use

You must not:

Use the Service for any unlawful purpose or to submit false information to HMRC.
Attempt to circumvent security measures or access other users' accounts.
Use automated tools to abuse the Service or HMRC's APIs.
Reverse engineer or copy the Service.

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these rules without notice.

8. Pricing and payment

The Service is currently free during the beta period. We will provide at least 30 days' notice before introducing paid plans or changing pricing for existing users.

Paid plans (when introduced) will be billed in advance. Refunds are handled on a case-by-case basis — contact simpletaxlink@gmail.com.

9. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law:

We are not liable for any tax penalties, interest, or fines arising from submissions made through the Service, including due to incorrect figures you provide.
We are not liable for HMRC system outages, rejections, or processing delays.
Our total liability to you for any claim arising out of these Terms or the Service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.
We are not liable for any indirect, consequential, or special losses.

Nothing in these Terms limits liability for fraud, death or personal injury caused by negligence, or any liability that cannot be excluded by law.

10. Intellectual property

The Service, including its code, design, and content, belongs to SimpleTaxLink. These Terms do not grant you any intellectual property rights in the Service.

Your data (spreadsheet contents, financial figures) remains yours.

11. Termination

You may close your account at any time by contacting simpletaxlink@gmail.com. On closure we will delete your account data subject to our legal retention obligations (see Privacy Policy).

We may suspend or terminate your account if you breach these Terms, or if we discontinue the Service. We will give reasonable notice except where immediate action is required for security reasons.

12. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.

13. Changes to these terms

We may update these Terms. We will notify you by email or in-app notice at least 14 days before material changes take effect. Continued use of the Service after that date constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
